As a society, our community efforts are very important to us. It has been made slightly more difficult by the ongoing restrictions imposed on us by the pandemic. However, we are delighted to be the latest to announce a corporate partnership with volunteering organisation, onHand. The community team launched this initiative in January encouraging all head office and branch employees to get involved in activities on the app.

The volunteering app allows users to complete ‘missions’ in the form of a range of different tasks such as going to do someone’s weekly shop, chatting on the phone to an isolated individual, and even business-related jobs like creating a poster for a charity. onHand provides support to leading charities such as British Red Cross, Age UK and local councils.

Claire Hunnable, Community Business Partner, comments: “I am so pleased we have been able to partner with onHand as part of our ongoing community work. With each individual staff member signing up to the app, no matter what part of the business or location, they can get involved and do their part to give back to the community.”

With ongoing lockdowns and restrictions looking likely for some time, research by onHand shows that loneliness is not just affecting the older population, but the millennial workforce equally as badly. The current situation highlights that now is a time that is as important as ever to provide support to local communities, and our colleagues.

‘We’re delighted to partner with Saffron Building Society and offer micro-volunteering to their employees. With working from home becoming a norm for many, volunteering offers a valuable opportunity to improve mental health while also making a huge difference to the local community,” Sanjay Lobo, CEO at onHand, adds.

Claire continues: “Having already completed a mission myself, I cannot wait for the rest of the building society to sign up and give it a go. This initiative will not only allow us to help the lives of those in our community, but from my experience employees should also see a boost in their own wellbeing too – something everyone needs right now.”

If you are a local business looking to engage your employees with volunteering, you can speak to onHand directly to sign up. You can also refer someone in need if you know of an individual who may need some support.
