Started as way of engaging with the Members and the staff of the Society, Saffron Singers has grown into a strong and happy choir of all ages. The choir encourages singers of any ability to come along and join in the fun (we don’t conduct auditions). We have many ladies, but also a good male section of tenors and basses, we welcome all !
The choir is led by the well-known local musician Maggi Griffiths, who has taken over the reins of the group following the departure of previous leaders Siobhan and Tim Lihoreau. Maggi runs and sings in several groups around the Saffron Walden area and has a very wide and varied portfolio of songs. Early rehearsals with Maggi have gone brilliantly well and the choir loves her enthusiasm.
We meet every Friday at the Parish Rooms next to St Mary’s Church in Saffron Walden from midday to 1.30pm with a repertoire ranging from traditional through choral to contemporary music.
The choir performs regularly throughout the year and has performed at small and large venues over the years including the Royal Albert Hall (as part of a choir collective), Saffron Hall, and West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge. We’ve sung as a solo choir, with other Cambridge based choirs and also supported the internationally renowned London Community Gospel Choir. But the choir also performs locally and has made appearances at smaller venues such as local care homes (Highfields and Cornell Court) to entertain the residents.
According to AI singing is “a holistic and universally accessible human activity that promotes physical, psychological, and social well-being”, which translated into normal language means IT’S REALLY GOOD FUN !

So why not give it a go ?
