I’m very sorry to share the news that Saffron’s former Chief Financial Officer, Maurice Mills, passed away on 13 June.
Maurice joined Saffron as Financial Controller on 12 September 2017 and became CFO on 4 January 2023. During that time, he made a huge contribution to the Society. He cared deeply about Saffron, about the people around him, and about the Finance team he was so proud to lead.
After being taken suddenly ill in February 2025, Maurice was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. Even then, he faced what followed with real courage, warmth and positivity. Many of us saw that in the way he stayed in touch with colleagues and continued to show such genuine interest in other people.
For me, he was more than a colleague. He was a trusted friend, and I will always remember the time we spent working together with great fondness.
Maurice leaves behind a beloved daughter, partner, parents and brother. My thoughts are with them, and with everyone who knew and loved him, at such a difficult time.
Maurice made a real difference to Saffron and to so many people here. He will be remembered with real affection and gratitude. In the days ahead, colleagues from across the Society will come together to remember Maurice and celebrate his life. He will be truly missed.
