Branch Closures

Which branches are closing?

We are closing Frinton, Great Dunmow and Sawbridgeworth.

As a mutual organisation, it is our responsibility to ensure branches provide an effective local service and are run in a cost-effective manner.

Why are you closing branches?
We have seen a steady decline in the number of customers using these branches over the course of the past 5 years, which has resulted in it becoming uneconomic to keep open. Unfortunately because of this, we have had no option but to make the difficult decision to close these branches.
When are you closing?
Frinton, Great Dunmow and Sawbridgeworth will be closing on 13 July 2019 to customers. You will be able to continue to use these branches until this date.
Will this affect my account in any way?

Have there been any redundancies as part of the closure?
As a Member owned business it’s always important to be as efficient and focused as we can be. Due to changes in our branch structure a small number of managerial redundancies have been made. All branch staff affected have been offered a role in a new location or voluntary redundancy.
Is this part of a bigger cost-cutting exercise at Saffron – is the society in trouble?
Not at all. Saffron is a robust building society and our continuing strong financial performance means we are not in trouble. This is not part of a bigger cost cutting exercise, but we do have to ensure each of our branches operates in a cost-effective manner and, if they are not, we have a responsibility to take appropriate action.
