The roots of the Society and its 'community' feel are something to be proud of. Our staff forge links with the local communities and get involved in charity fundraising activities. Apprenticeships at Saffron

Apprenticeships are a great way for individuals to gain valuable skills, knowledge and experience in a wide range of careers that provide practical, on-the-job training and classroom based learning.

At Saffron Building Society, we believe apprentices can bring invaluable enthusiasm and ideas. We encourage our apprentices every step of the way and provide them with all of the support they need to incorporate them into the world of work which will help them to shape their future career.

Many of our apprentices who finished their qualifications have stayed at Saffron and continue to develop and progress their career; here are just a few of our inspiring colleagues who began their introduction into work via apprenticeships here:

Henry Forbes – Service Desk Analyst

I first started my career at Saffron Building Society as an apprentice, I was very lucky to be offered the opportunity to work in the mortgage department at the Society and gain a business administration NVQ at the same time.

Once I had finished my apprenticeship, an opportunity within the IT department as a trainee service desk analyst arose. I applied for this position and was the successful candidate.

Since then, I have been made a Service Desk Analyst and developed skills in IT and my knowledge from working in the mortgage department has been a great asset to my development.

Working as an apprentice was a great way to kick start my career and teach me how the world of business works.

Alice Stanford-Everrett – Customer Service Assistant

I have loved every part of the Customer Service apprenticeship I am currently completing at Saffron Building Society. So far it has been a very insightful and challenging experience – the knowledge I have gained has been incredible, and I will be able to use it throughout my whole working life, no matter what career path I choose.

I would recommend choosing and apprenticeship to anybody, especially if you consider yourself more of a physical/on-the-job learner!

Luke Wood – Project Analyst

I started at Saffron in 2015 as an apprentice straight from school when I was 16 as a Savings Operations Officer. After a year of hard work, I completed my apprenticeship. During this time I was provided with the knowledge and expertise to ensure that I completed my apprenticeship to the best of my ability. I was offered a permanent role within the Savings team at Saffron in September 2016 at the age of 17.

At this stage, Saffron were going through a major change within the Society, and I was able to get really involved in the change, which gave me a huge understanding of how the Society works and how the new systems would help us to achieve the Society’s aspirations.

In 2017, in recognition of my help and support to different teams around the Society during and after the implementation of changes went live, I won the ‘Saffron Individual of The Year’ award.

In 2018, I was offered the job as a Business Analyst in the Change Team, this was a huge opportunity and thanks to Saffron, my career is able to grow in this sector which I am enjoying every moment of.

Saffron Building Society is also supporting me to complete an external credited qualification in Business Analysis in the near future to help continue my development and knowledge.
