Building Society launches Charity of the Year fundraising with Row-athon

Saffron Building Society's Bishop's Stortford branch launched their support of local charity Kisses4Kids last Thursday with a day-long Row-athon.

Saffron staff took to the rowing machine between 10am and 3pm; including a stint from the Society's Sales and Marketing Director, John Eastgate. Between them the rowers rowed a total of 11,762 strokes and burnt over 1500 calories.

Refreshments were served throughout the day, and over £200 was donated by visitors to the branch.

In a boost to the branch's fundraising total, Customer Service Assistant Linda Pollard took the plunge down Harlow Water Tower on Saturday 2nd May in a sponsored Abseil; and in doing so has raised over £700 for the charity.

The events come shortly after the close of Saffron's Charity of the Year member vote, in which Kisses4Kids was selected as Local Charity of the Year for the Bishop's Stortford, Royston and Ware branches.

The charity, established by Saffron member Stacey Johnson, will now enjoy a year of support from the Society; including fundraising, volunteering and advocacy.

Branch Manager Linda Jones said:

"We are delighted that Kisses 4 Kids has won the Charity of the Year vote as it's a charity very close to our hearts. The work that they do is amazing and makes a real difference to local children who are undergoing hospital treatment."

"The Row-athon and Abseil has got our fundraising off to a great start, and we're all looking forward to working with Stacey and her Angels in 2010 to help them do even more for local children".
