Saffron encourage parents to make saving fun this Christmas

With money in the news throughout the year, now is the perfect time to introduce children to the saving habit.

Saffron's Ladybird account has an opening balance of just £1, making it ideal for any parent, grandparent or friend to open on behalf of a young saver. The account comes with a free Ladybird money box, meaning that children can be in charge of their pennies themselves - and ensuring there's another cheerful gift under the tree.

Children are always welcome to bring their full moneyboxes in to their friendly local Saffron branch, helping to build understanding of how savings accounts work. The account rewards savers up to the age of 11 with a good, consistent rate, helping them grow their savings as they get older. The immediate access means that the savings can be withdrawn whenever they are needed.

Andy Golding, Chief Executive of Saffron Building Society, said:

"Our Ladybirds are very popular, especially after our Ladybird Treasure Hunt this summer. By making saving fun, we hope that children will take an interest in money, whether that's pooling their pocket money or just collecting their coppers!

Getting a child in to saving can have a big impact long after a flashy toy or the latest computer game has been forgotten. The invested money is only half of the story; as well as an investment for their future, a savings account is a brilliant way to get youngsters on the road to understanding money and how it can work for them."
