First £160 Winning Ladybird found at Cromer Mill!
Many Ladybirds containing £1 hidden in the local area are still to be found
Plus special prizes of £160 available and one of £1600
Saffron Building Society, the regional mutual serving East Anglia, today announced the 1st winner in its Ladybird treasure hunt competition. Robert Castelow from Bushy in Hertfordshire found the lucky Ladybird at Cromer Mill near Royston which contained a special ticket worth £160 to invest in a Saffron Ladybird account.
Saffron launched the competition as part of its ongoing 160th birthday celebrations and to raise awareness of the Saffron Ladybird account which is open to savers aged 11 or under. In total 56 Ladybirds were hidden around the Saffron branches in Royston, Ware and Bishop's Stortford with many left still to be claimed.
If finders take their lucky Ladybird into a branch and use the £1 to open a Saffron Ladybird account Saffron will 'magic' the amount into £5 as a thank you for joining. Also hidden in the Ladybirds is one special purple ticket, worth £1600 when deposited in a Ladybird account, and four further tickets - each worth £160 when deposited in a Ladybird account.
Those still wanting to take part in the treasure hunt can find daily clues and riddles on the runaway Ladybirds' whereabouts at www.saffronladybird.co.uk. The website can also be used to follow the progress of other Ladybird trackers, exchange stories, upload photos, and share tips.
Robert Castelow, winner of the £160 prize said:
"I'm really really really happy to have found this ladybird because it's got lots of money in it. I'm going to save up with my brother for a laptop."
Sara Andrews, the Society's General Manager said: "Congratulations to Robert! Saffron's Ladybird Treasure Hunt is about encouraging our younger savers by making saving fun, and for Robert, £160 is the icing on the cake. Well done to everyone else who has found a Ladybird and taken it in to their local branch; having opened their own savings account, they can start watching their £5 grow.
"To mark our 160th year we felt it was important to give something back to the community. Through the Ladybird treasure hunt we have been able to highlight the importance of starting saving young, and have brought local families together through the shared experience of searching for one of the 1200 winning Ladybirds."
For those still wishing to take part in the competition there are plenty of Ladybirds still hiding. Visit www.saffronladybird.co.uk to find out more and connect with other treasure hunters in your area."
The competition is only open to children aged eleven and under. Anyone finding a Ladybird who is above this age is encouraged to give it to a child aged 11 or under, or take it into their local Saffron branch so that it can be re-hidden.
