Local Building Society hunts for first Haverhill customer

Saffron Building Society has much to celebrate in 2009. It is the 160th Anniversary of its establishment in Saffron Walden, and 40 years since it opened in Haverhill.

To mark the 40th Birthday of the popular Haverhill branch, the building society is searching for customers who have been members since the branch's opening on 12th May 1969. The branch originally opened at Cambridge House on the High Street under the management of Mrs. Dawe, before moving to its current location in 1975.

Sales and Marketing Director John Eastgate said:

We wanted to mark this Anniversary with real Saffron customers. As a local mutual, we are owned by our members; they are at the heart of everything we do, and this is a good opportunity to look back at our history in terms of the people we serve. Funnily enough, our computer database doesn't go back 40 years, so we're hoping members will come to us!

We are particularly keen to find the first customer who joined us back in 1969. If you were a customer of the Haverhill branch 40 years ago, we'd really like to hear from you. Whether you invested savings or took out a mortgage, you could well be amongst our earliest Haverhill members."

If you've been a Haverhill customer for a long time, perhaps as long as 40 years, please call in to the branch, write to current Branch Manager Sharon Mattheus at 2, Queen Street Haverhill CB9 9EF, or email marketing@saffronbs.co.uk.

Saffron Building Society plans to hold further events to commemorate both anniversaries, holding celebrations through the summer and running a volunteering scheme to give something back to communities within its branch network.
