Saffron Building Society donation to help 21 local charities

Saffron Building Society's donation of £10,000 to Essex FM's official charity Martin and Su's Essex Kids will help 21 different charities in the Essex area.

Martin and Su's Essex kids raises money for deserving causes in the county including helping children who have been subject to abuse, homelessness or suffer from a physical or mental illness.

The 21 different charities benefiting from this donation include Action for Blind People, Hamelin Trust, Colchester Carers Centre and React. The £10,000 donation from Saffron Building Society will form a total of £50,000 from various benefactors which will be awarded to the charities at Orsett Hall in Brentwood on 29th April.

The donation will be used by the charities in a variety of ways from buying books and art materials to funding excursions. React, who provide specialist support to families caring for a terminally ill child, will put the money towards helping 6 families buy vital equipment for their child. Kingsdown School in Essex is using their donation to purchase an Akka Mobility Platform, a device which enables those with severe disabilities to move around unaided.

Andy Golding, Saffron Building Society Chief Executive said "As a local mutual Building Society, our involvement in the community is very important to us. We are extremely happy the money is being distributed amongst these worthy charities and we hope it will make a real difference.

"We celebrate our 160th Birthday in 2009, and are marking the occasion with a series of charity events and products that I am sure our members will enjoy. By joining up with charity initiatives, we are helping to give back to our local community in a number of ways."

This year Martin and Su's Essex Kids helped thousands of children in the local area by funding worthwhile projects.

Essex FM's breakfast show presenter and charity ambassador, Martin Day said "Martin and Su's Essex Kids prides itself on helping the smaller charities in Essex which sometimes struggle with funding and find it hard to raise awareness with their limited funds"
