Staff from Saffron Building Society, the regional building society serving Anglia, have swapped their biros for brushes to help redecorate at St Elizabeth's, a specialist epilepsy and special needs centre in Much Hadham as part of the building society's 160 birthday celebrations.
Ten staff volunteers from Saffron's regional branch network plus Saffron Chief Executive Andy Golding joined forces on 17 February to help St Elizabeth's give its corridor walls a makeover, transforming them from brassy orange to a more soothing cream.
The Saffron volunteer scheme marks the start of a series of initiatives to help the local community as part of the building society's 160th birthday celebrations. Throughout the year, Saffron Building Society will be launching themed product promotions plus working on a range of projects with the local community to commemorate this milestone.
Tracey Harley, fundraising manager, St Elizabeth's Centre said: "As a not-for-profit organisation we rely on the goodwill of volunteers from the local community so it's fantastic that staff from Saffron Building Society wanted to take time out of their busy days to help us.
"Over the years, Saffron staff, in particular those from the Bishop's Stortford branch, have been absolutely fantastic in supporting our students. Not only have they taken part in schemes like this but Saffron staff have also helped students learn how to manage their money. We're really looking forward to growing this relationship and working with them on further initiatives that benefits all those involved."
Andy Golding, Chief Executive, Saffron Building Society said: "It's such a pleasure to join my team and help such a fantastic cause like St Elizabeth's. The hard work of all the staff at the centre is appreciated by people with special needs from both the local community and across the UK, so it's great to be able to do our bit and help with tasks they are often too busy to do. As a local savings institution we are dedicated to serving the needs of our customers. Helping the local community through various volunteer initiatives will be just one of the ways we achieve this over the course of the year."
