Charity programme

Local charities are being given the chance to receive £10,000 worth of funding from the Saffron Building Society.

The money is donated every year to an organisation that the Society's panel of judges feel will benefit the community in its branch network. The money must be used for a specific project, item or venture that will make a difference to the lives of local people in 2008/2009. Local charities that show their commitment to making a real difference to the lives of people in their community will be considered.

If you are, or know of, a local charity which could benefit from this generous injection of funds, we would be delighted to hear from you.

In 2006, £10,000 was donated to the Uttlesford Crossroads to help its work in providing respite services for carers in the area. In 2007, the same amount went to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, to sponsor, breed, train and care for two Labrador Cross puppies, named Saffie and Ronnie, who will eventually work to improve the lives and mobility of partially sighted or blind people in our region.

A selection panel will meet to choose the winning charity. Applications forms can be downloaded below, or picked up from any of the 12 branches in the region.

Application forms must be received by the Society by 11 July 2008.
