Board of Directors
The board of the Saffron Building Society is made up of executive and non-executive directors. The role of the directors is to deal with the day-to-day running of the Society, while non-executive directors, who are from a range of different backgrounds, bring an outside perspective to the management of the Society and also represent the views of the membership.
Chairman : Richard Herbert
Richard Herbert is Managing Director of the Herbert Group Ltd based in Haverhill which supplies equipment and services to major food retailers/manufacturers. A chartered accountant by practice, he joined the Society's board in 2002 as a non-executive director and became Chairman in April 2004.
Chief Executive : Andy Golding
Andy has over twenty years' experience in financial services, with a strong background in the banking and mortgage markets. He has held senior management positions with NatWest, John Charcol and Bradford and Bingley. Andy joined the Society as Sales & Marketing Director and took over as Chief Executive in July 2006.
Finance Director: Jonathan Hall
Jonathan qualified as a chartered accountant with Pricewaterhouse Coopers and has a strong background in the financial services market. He has held senior management positions in Norwich Union and joined the Society in August 2004 from Central Trust plc where, as Group Financial Controller, he was responsible for putting in place the financial foundations to enable rapid growth.
Operations Director : Andrew Rushworth
Andrew joined the Society from AMP Banking, where he was responsible for the design and build of the operational customer service and technology platforms as part of the company's UK launch. Andrew joined the Society in 2004 and stepped up to the board in December 2004 from his previous position as general manager of IT.
Non-Executive Director : Alan Goodman
Following thirteen years in local government, Alan, a qualified accountant, spent over twenty years as a management consultant with Pricewaterhouse Coopers, including fifteen years as a partner. Since his retirement, Alan has provided voluntary support to a number of organisations in the region and he continues to undertake international consultancy studies.
Non-Executive Director : Peter Harrison
Peter Harrison is a chartered accountant with over thirty years experience in public practice specialising in financial services. He worked at KPMG for over twenty years where he became a Senior Partner and was also responsible for running the Financial Services practice in the UK. Peter now undertakes varied assignments in the area of financial services.
Non-Executive Director : Jan Smith
Jan Smith has extensive financial services and board experience as a director at TSB Bank plc, First Direct and RAC. She runs her own London-based marketing strategy company and is also a non-executive director for a number of other institutions, such as the Royal Mint and the Government Actuary's Department.
