Community groups and charities took full advantage of the Saffron Building Society's mobile communication vehicle (MCV) in 2007, with 20 local organisations using it during the year.
The free service was used by groups such as the Harlow Women's Network, the Stortford Music Festival, the Newport Free Grammar School and the Royal British Legion among many others.
The fully-equipped, state-of-the-art MCV has a PA system, a gas hob, a sink and its own power source. It is a perfect headquarters for any community event and is available free to community groups on a first come, first serve basis. The MCV can also be delivered to the event and taken away for a mileage charge to cover costs.
The drive behind the MCV is to give back to the community, a core part of the Saffron's mission statement.
Saffron Chief Executive Andy Golding said: "The Saffron Building Society is an integral part of the community, something we pride ourselves on. Helping local organisations is something we do willingly and with pleasure. Local groups are very often on tight budgets and the work they do is invaluable to local people. Offering this high tech free service helps them to help others, either by fund-raising, putting on community festivals or pulling together the community in other ways."
Mr Golding said the up take of the MCV in 2007 was proof local groups valued the service. He said: "We're delighted with the level of use, and are currently taking bookings for 2008. We are anticipating a very busy year ahead for the MCV."
