Sawbridgeworth branch of the Saffron Building Society helps put an end to those rainy days

Sawbridgeworth & High Wych Girl Guiding Group has scooped a Saffron Building Society's donation, allocated to benefit local community groups.

The £500 donation by the Society, part of its 2007 Branch Donation Programme, is designed to support worthy causes in the area, in a push to empower local groups to help their own communities.

Sawbridgeworth & High Wych Girl Guiding Group applied for the donation from the Society to help towards the repair of the Guiding Group's hut roof.

Guide Leader and Chairperson of the Hut Committee, Liz Faulkner said the donation was real proof that the Saffron Building Society was committed to ordinary people in the community.

"I was amazed when we won," Mrs Faulkner said. "The Saffron Building Society is literally opposite the community hut in Sawbridgeworth, and nearly 200 local girls and women use the hut every week. Local people know the hut well. It used to be the library. This donation will go towards the cost of re-roofing the hut. It is a wonderful gesture and will make a big difference to our community. Now we are hopefully on track to have the roof repaired by this coming Easter."

Andy Golding, the Society's Chief Executive said awarding donations to local worthwhile causes was just one of the many ways the Society supported local people.

"We are behind our local community one hundred percent," he said. "We are delighted to be able to donate money to worthy causes that will have a ripple effect throughout the area. The Sawbridgeworth & High Wych Girl Guiding Group provides an integral service to the community, and has been an important feature of local life since the early 1950s."

Mrs Faulkner said she was extremely grateful to the Society for the donation, and was excited about the prospect of seeing the roof finished.

"We've got leaks at the moment, so it's not good for the people who use the hut during the week. But at least now we can plan a date when we'll be able to officially show off our new roof. The entire team at the Sawbridgeworth branch of the Saffron Building Society will be invited over to take a look."
