First-time buyers in Colchester looking to find their way onto the property ladder will be given a helping hand by the Saffron Building Society on 21 July.
The Society is holding a special mortgage workshop to help people who are new to the property market find out more about the different alternatives that may be open to them.
Scott Streeter, Colchester Branch Manager of the Saffron Building Society commented: "With mortgage rates going up for the fifth time since last summer and the average house price in Colchester at just under £200,000, it's not surprising that first time buyers are feeling the pinch. This is even more understandable when you consider that with the average income at just over £24,000 people can feel that a mortgage is just out of their reach.
"However, there are lots of things that they could consider, such as shared ownership or longer term mortgages. We are holding the workshop to help make people aware of their alternatives if they want to own their own home."
The workshop will also be giving advice to people who are seeking to remortgage their property. Scott added: "We will have advisers at the branch between 9am and 3pm who will be happy to help people through their options.
"We're expecting a very high turn out and are advising people to telephone in advance to book a place."
The workshop is free of charge and will take place on 21 July between 9am and 3pm at at the Saffron Building Society, 5 High Street, Colchester. People wanting to book an appointment should telephone 01206 549 278.
