Good causes in Eastern England could be missing out

Charities across Eastern England are being urged not to miss out on a potential £10,000 windfall.

The Saffron Building Society is currently taking applications from charities in its branch network area that could use the cash to make a vital difference to the region.

Saffron Building Society chief executive Andy Golding said: "Our organisation reaches across Essex, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and East London and we want to ensure that we know about any charity in the region that could use the money.

"As a mutual, we pride ourselves on working with our members and local organisations to benefit the local area and for years our charitable donation scheme has helped many charities and organisations in Eastern England - 2007 will be no different."

To apply, registered charities can fill out a form available on the Society's website, explaining how they will spend the £10,000 and who or what will benefit. A selection panel will then meet to choose the winning charity.

Last year's winner was Uttlesford Crossroads, which needed the cash to help its work in providing respite services for carers throughout north Essex. The Society not only provided money – Andy Golding also joined the charity's board to offer advice on the organisation's finances.

Andy continued: "This is an exciting opportunity for the society to help charities make a real difference across the region. We are looking forward to receiving many entries and we're sure we will have a tough time picking the most appropriate recipients."

The closing date for applications is July 20th and organisations interested in applying for the £10,000 donation should contact Amy Hepworth at the Society at amy.hepworth@saffronbs.co.uk. Application forms are also available here
