Board of Directors
The board of the Saffron Building Society is made up of executive and non-executive directors. The role of the directors is to deal with the day-to-day running of the Society, while non-executive directors, who are from a range of different backgrounds, bring an outside perspective to the management of the Society and also represent the views of the membership.
Chairman : Peter Harrison
Peter Harrison is a chartered accountant with over thirty years experience in public practice specialising in financial services. He worked at KPMG for over twenty years where he became a Senior Partner and was also responsible for running the Financial Services practice in the UK. Peter now undertakes varied assignments in the area of financial services. He joined the Society's board in 2004 as a non-executive director and became Chairman in April 2009.
Chief Executive : Jon Hall
Jon has over twenty years of professional accounting experience having qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the UK, and also working in Bermuda with PwC. He has fifteen years' experience in financial services which includes senior management positions in Norwich Union and Group Financial Controller for Central Trust PLC.
Jon joined the Society in August 2004 as Finance Director. Jon was appointed to the board of Safe Home Income Plans (SHIP) in 2008. In his time as Finance Director he has also had a hand in New Product Development including, in partnership with international media firms, a goal planning and saving website that has been recognised as one of the most innovative recent products in UK retail banking.
Outside of work Jon is a keen Triathlete, completing the London Triathlon 2010. When not training on the open road (or in the open water!) Jon enjoys holidaying in Florida, listening to music and spending time with his wife and daughter.
Sales & Marketing Director : John Eastgate
John's career has centred around financial services, initially spending over ten years with Barclays, progressing to senior management positions. He joined the Society in April 2008 after five years with Experian, where he headed the banking team in the Decision Analytics division. As Sales & Marketing Director he was co-opted to the Board in October 2008.
Non-Executive Director : Jan Smith
Jan Smith has extensive financial services and board experience as a director at TSB Bank plc, First Direct and RAC. She runs her own London-based marketing strategy company and is also a non-executive director for a number of other institutions, such as the Royal Mint and the Government Actuary's Department.
Non-Executive Director : Trevor Bayley
Trevor has 26 years' experience in Financial Services having been with Britannia Building Society for 21 years, 12 of which were as a Main Board Director. More recently he was with National Savings and Investments where he was Finance Director and Deputy Chief Executive before retiring in December 2006. Trevor is a chartered accountant and was awarded an OBE in the 2007 New Years' Honours List for services to National Savings and Investments.
Non-Executive Director : Charles Wilson
Charles is a solicitor with broad experience of the financial services sector, having worked at Abbey and Nationwide over a period of 22 years. Charles joined the Board in July 2009 as a Non-Executive Director. He is a keen supporter of the mutual business model and was instrumental in development of Nationwide's strategy to remain mutual at a time when demutualisation was in vogue.
